Grace Kelly Quintet

Aug 10, Saturday - 2pm

California Theatre Stage

When it comes to Grace Kelly, people seem to be divided into two groups: those who marvel at her proficiency, creativity and ever-accelerating growth, and those who have yet to encounter this wunderkind who just celebrated her 21st birthday.

Since age 12, she’s performed at prominent venues like the Montreal Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Apollo Theater, Birdland and Boston’s Symphony Hall. Kelly has released eight full-length albums and graduated from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music in December 2011 at age 19. She has performed and recorded with the likes of Dave Brubeck, Phil Woods, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr., Jamie Cullum, Frank Morgan, Esperanza Spalding, Toots Thielemans, and Dianne Reeves.

Kelly received the ASCAP Foundation’s Young Jazz Composers Award in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011 and won “Jazz Artist of the Year” at the Boston Music Awards in both 2008 and 2010. The 2009, 2010, and 2011 DownBeat Critics Poll listed her among its “Alto Saxophone Rising Stars,” the youngest ever awarded the honor. She’s been featured on dozens of radio programs and has appeared in the LA Times, DownBeat, Jazziz, Jazz Times, Boston Globe and Washington Post.

This performance is supported in part through the generosity of Jan DeCarli. San Jose Jazz is grateful for the support of community members co-investing in our mission to enliven Silicon Valley through great music.
