San Jose Rep Stage
In 2013, the San Jose Rep Stage is better than ever! We’re upgrading the roster to include even more world-renowned jazz artists to perform in this intimate, climate-controlled space. Your ticket to experience these major artists is a special wristband in addition to your basic festival admission – $10 per day, available online or at any festival gate. This additional wristband is good for all regular daytime festival sets, 12-7pm. San Jose Rep Stage admission is included for all VIP members and VIP admission holders. Learn more about the VIP experience.
Jazz+ performances give you the opportunity to see some of Summer Fest’s brightest stars a second time in intimate, acoustically-rich settings later the same day. Jazz+ concerts take place at the San Jose Rep Theater, Blackbird Tavern, Theatre on San Pedro Square (site of the Swing Stage) and The Pagoda (site of the Jazz Beyond Stage) Friday-Sunday at 9pm. There are six Jazz+ performances, including Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Yosvany Terry, The Cookers, and a special evening with the legendary Ben Vereen. What will your favorite artist do in a small club setting?
Jazz+ Concerts are not included with VIP or general admission; you’ll be invited to buy Jazz+ in step 2 of purchasing your festival admission. You may also buy Jazz+ concerts without buying festival admission. To see what’s on offer, look for the Jazz+ symbol or filter the schedule by the Jazz+ genre.
Big Easy/YP Blues Stage
A special focus of Summer Fest 2013 is the music of New Orleans. The new Big Easy Stage will feature the best of New Orleans jazz and zydeco, curated by Jay Meduri of the Poor House Bistro. And this year, we’ve moved the Blues Stage closer to the center of the action to make it easier to sample within your hectic festival schedule. The two stages comprise a unique area within the fest featuring Cajun fare by the Poor House and other special food and drink. Also nearby are booths with creative handmade crafts by SJ Made. All this is centered on leafy, historic Post Street–a breath of fresh air, just a block from the Main Stage.
Big Easy Parade
We’re so excited about the new Big Easy Stage, we’re having a parade! The parade will wind through the Main Stage seating area and make its way–in serpentine fashion–to the Big Easy Stage on Post and First Streets to celebrate the inaugural concert. The parade will be led by the Bay Area band Bug Horn Rex and will feature dancers and community members playing along. We invite all of you to join us, though a wristband is necessary to reach the parade route.
2013 Main Stage Lawn Policy
On Saturday and Sunday, the Main Stage lawn area behind and around the VIP seating area will be divided into two sections. The front section is reserved for chairs only—no blankets will be permitted in this area. Seat backs must be a maximum of 36” in height. The rear section may be used for chairs (of the same height) and blankets, with a maximum of 6 feet x 8 feet reserved for any one party. One person must be in the area at all times, or the blanket will be removed. Tarps are not allowed, to help protect the lawn from damage.
In both sections, blankets or chairs cannot be left overnight. Soft coolers only are allowed and must be small enough to fit under your lawn chair. If you’d like to place your chairs or blankets early you can be escorted in at 7:30am to place your chairs; you can return to your spot only when the Main Stage opens at 11am.
On Friday night there are no seating restrictions; however, you may not leave chairs and blankets overnight. Thank you for following these rules to make Summer Fest more fun for everyone!
VIP Entrance Made Easy
This year, VIP admission holders should print their tickets at home (or display them on your smartphone) and show them for entry at any entrance gate. They may then pick up their VIP identification packet at the VIP Concierge Booth, located adjacent to the VIP Pavilion, in the Main Stage area inside the festival grounds.
