Fest Five: Jackie, Marketing Assistant

Back to blog

Jackie joined the San Jose Jazz marketing team roughly a year and a half ago. This year as marketing assistant, she’s helping us prepare for Summer Fest with a few interns of her own! A recent grad of Santa Clara University, she’s also a jazz singer and leader of the jazz/funk group the JurassiC, who close out our Metro Gordon Biersch Stage Sunday evening.

Just last week, Ms. Gage was one of three recipients of the new Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Award, which grants $3,000 to upcoming artists in the community. Congratulations once more on this wonderful achievement!

Before she and the rest of The JurassiC take the stage, she’ll (hopefully) have some time to check out a few Summer Fest artists she’s excited to see. In her own words, these are the five acts she’s most amped about.

Afrolicious
“I freaking looooove to dance, and they have those funky rhythms down!”

Natalie Cressman
“I have only heard incredible things about her, but sadly missed her set at last year’s Summer Fest. This will be a great way to make up for lost time.”

Miles Bonny
“I’m excited to see B. Lewis as well, but Miles Bonny — mmmmmm. . . Need I write more?” (“Lumberjack Soul” has been in heavy rotation at the SJJ office.)

Derrick Hodge
“Hearing his sound broken apart from the Robert Glasper Experiment will be an experiment for me. He really held down Glasper’s out sound, and after hearing Hodge’s track featuring Common, I’m looking forward to the music he’s going to bring to the table. I will not miss this.”

Tammy Hall
“I first heard of Tammy as the pianist with Pamela Rose’s Wild Women of Song. Then she popped up again with Lara Price. Now she’s releasing her album, and I can’t wait to see her live interpretations of classics.”
