Fest Five: Janice Edwards, Host of “Signature Silicon Valley”

Back to blog

Janice Edwards, the host and executive producer of “Signature Silicon Valley” and “Bay Area Vista” will once again emcee on the Main Stage at Summer Fest 2016. Here’s her Fest Five:

Kermit Ruffins & The Barbecue Swingers
All you have to do is look at photos of Kermit Ruffins’ eyes and know that music and mischief are dancing there. I love the name of his band and finding out that Kermit actually cooks barbecue makes the whole vibe of their group more than fantastic fun music with New Orleans flavor, it’s delicious, too! So they are my number one for Fest Five. Can’t wait to introduce them!

Goapele
Goapele was one of my first guests on “Bay Area Vista” right after I launched on NBC Bay Area. She was on set then and later we went to her studio and watched her as she worked. She has such an incredible spirit- it was magical watching her create the sound. It is exciting to see how her career has continued to greater and greater heights. The summer vibe of her classic “Closer” is one I look forward to savoring.

Rick & Russ ShowThe World Famous Rick and Russ Show
When it comes to artistry, Big Russ and CJ Flash know how to create unforgettable moments in their own right, MC-ing with them keeping the Jazz Fest crowds happy between sets is soooooo much fun.

Bobby Caldwell and His R&B Band
“What You Won’t Do For Love” is a classic, haunting, moving song that touches me right down to my soul. With lyrics like – “I came back to let you know, Got a thing for you and I can’t let go” after he’s searched to find the love within- WOW! I promise not to sing along too loudly, so that we can all really enjoy the great Bobby Caldwell.

Three way tie: Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Lizz Wright, and Sergio Mendes & Brasil 2016 (come on, who could choose Just Five?). Faith is foremost and the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir will start our Sunday morning with just the right spirit. Lizz Wright will no doubt be incredible, and if we can’t be in Rio for the Olympics, the classic, incomparable Sergio Mendes and Brasil 2016, will help us soar to new heights and capture a moment in time that we will never forget!
