Eddie Gale

Known as the City of San Jose official Ambassador of Jazz, proclaimed by then Mayor Norman Y. Mineta in 1974, Eddie Gale is a world renown trumpeter pillar of the Bay Area jazz scene. As a musician, trumpeter, composer, publisher, recording artist and bandleader, Gale is a multi-faceted artist in the genre. This year, Gale celebrates his 50th year as a recording artist starting with the internationally known jazz label Blue Note Records.

Performing throughout the Bay Area, Canada and Europe, Gale has had the opportunity to showcase his talents at the Monterey Jazz Festival, New York Jazz Festival, Carnegie Recital Hall, Berkeley Jazz Festival, Brooklyn Jazz Festival, San Francisco-Oakland Alternative Music Festival and many more. Gale performs at the annual Concerts for Inner Peace in America and the World, which he originated and has produced for nearly 20 years.

He has been recognized for his work in the arts sector with the California Arts Council’s Sankofa Award for over 25 years of service to the youth in arts. His philanthropy has been acknowledged with the 2016 NBC Bay Area Proud and the 2006 CBS5 Jefferson Award for community service in the arts.

In 1992 A Minute with Miles, an album he produced was recognized by the Village Voice as Best Jazz Recording.

For his Summer Fest, Eddie Gale will feature his American Spiritual Jazz Unit. Also, free percussion instruments will be given to the first 40 people, so the crowd can play for peace along with Eddie Gale.
