Francis Experience Quintet

Aug 10, Saturday - 6pm
SJZ Break Room Stage

Francis Experience Quintet is led by Jonathan Francisco Borca, alongside co-founder Gabby Horlick (drums), and features standout musicians Bennett Roth (keys), Miguel “Frunkyman” Leyva (bass) and Mark Arroyo (guitar). The quintet blends rap, poetry, and storytelling as a vehicle to engage audiences with one shared experience.

From November 2023 to May 2024, Francis Experience Quintet became San Jose Museum of Art’s first residency, “Hip, Hop(e), Jazz & Storytelling,” alongside Illuminate SJ Now! and a roster of guest poets in a cross-medium performance series.

Beyond performing, Borca is also an advocate for his home community, East San José, and is a champion of pay equity for artists and musicians alike. In August 2022, he was the lead organizer for San José’s first-ever Creative Sector Mayoral forum, and in 2023 he received the Leadership in Art and Culture Award at the Annual Latino Heritage Month Celebration hosted by Assemblymember Ash Kalra. Borca is also an Arts Commissioner for the City of San Jose.
