Ginetta got her start playing in several Latin, compa, calypso, merengue and salsa bands, which took her on tours through Puerto Rico, Haiti, South America, Martinique and Guadeloupe. Blues was also a defining factor in her musical evolution and she was an honorary “Holmes Sister” with the incredible “Holmes Brothers” band, playing with them for years and touring with them thru Canada, Nova Scotia and New England. She also was the sole horn player & soloist for the American debut tour for The Boo Radleys, covering 45 states in seven weeks.
Yet her need to lead a band, sing, play and compose was the reason for the rise of Ginetta’s Vendetta. Formed 15 years ago, the band is comprised of the basic power trio of guitar, bass & drums. Playing only the funkiest versions of the jazz classics & singing her danceable originals, Ginetta commands any stage with her signature pocket-trumpet, sultry vocals & her special brand of high-octane entertainment.
She’s played the International Jazz Fest in Jamaica six times, and held a two-week stint at the Blue Note in Beirut. Other appearances include the Saint John Blues Festival (Virgin Islands), Gainesville Jazz Festival, Prishtina Jazz FEstival (Kosovo), headline performances at Hudson Black Arts Festival, and sets in Lebanon, Mexico, Las Vegas, and beyond.
Ginetta has been the recipient of four ASCAP Plus awards for songwriting, and her album Standards spent nine weeks in the top 20 on the Jazz Week charts. Her most recent, Little Big Horn, listed on the 57th Grammy Awards ballot in 10 categories, including Best Improvised Solo and Best Arranger.
