It was a brave initial act of separation that launched Parra’s creative journey. She famously left her graphic design job at Cisco Systems in early November 2006 to pursue music full time. Both she and her many fans are most grateful that she did.
Parra earned a Bachelors of Music and sang in a wide variety of bands while holding a corporate position and raising two children as a single mother. What she’s been able to create in over eleven-plus years and through five albums is a sound that lyrically leverages her singing in four languages.
Stylistically, Parra seamlessly explores and merges styles ranging from Afro-Cuban, Peruvian and Middle Eastern to folkloric South American, Brazilian and Neuva Trova, political-themed songs from post revolutionary Cuba that emerged in the ’60s.
A beloved member of the Bay Area live music scene, Parra will lead her ace working band for 2018 Summer Fest. She and the Latin World Ensemble quintet will traverse countless traditions while forging their own path.
