An American vocalist of African American and Afro-Brazilian heritage, Kenya Moses shares the sounds of Brazilian Bossa Nova with her project Bossa e Bossa, which performs throughout California and beyond for both public and private events.
Born in Americus, Georgia, and shortly thereafter moving to Darmstadt, Germany, Moses was exposed to a wide range of musical experiences that greatly influenced her subsequent years of studying and performing. By the time she was 5, she was playing the piano and singing whenever the opportunity arose. Upon moving to California at age 6, Moses began singing with her grandmother in the church choir, performing ballet folklorico and traditional ballet, and finding herself drawn to music in every form.
She became obsessed with music, which led to singing, playing and competing in international competitions. Moses later went on to study classical voice and flute at The University of California, Davis, where she also double majored in Performing Arts with a dance emphasis.
After college, Moses began her professional vocal career in the opera world, while simultaneously studying and performing dance with companies including Alvin Ailey in New York City, Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre, Embodiment Project and more. Her opera credits include Berkeley Opera, West Edge Opera and Pocket Opera. In addition, Moses took this time to study Business Administration, which assisted in her entrepreneurial pursuits shortly thereafter.
She took a short break in her musical career in 2008 to focus on her growing family and business, and returned to performing as an independent artist in 2010. Since that time, she has worked with (and continues to work with) GRAMMY Award-winning and highly acclaimed musicians.
