Bay Area based, Mala Greña’s original style merges a plethora of cumbia styles, from sonidero, chicha and digital, with experimental rock along with the realms of zapateado, hip hop, salsa and psychedelia.
Originating in Hayward and founded by composer Michael Rodriguez, aka “El Greñudo,” the group is looking forward to their upcoming EP release.
Besides the originals, the group adds its own flavor to a wide array of cover songs, including staples from Cumbia, reggaeton, pop and other latin rhythms. This has allowed the band to promote its music while animating events and venues. With melodies and lyrics that tell anti-systemic stories, gritty guitar lines, warm organ tones, unorthodox synths, unconventional song structures and a tight rhythm and bass combo, Mala Greña is set to be one of the most groundbreaking, soul-shaking musical projects.
