Manny Martinez Y La Rebeldia

Aug 13, Sunday - 2:30pm
Salsa Stage

Singer and songwriter Manny Martinez weaves together 30 years of musical expertise in his latest musical project, La Rebeldia, which incorporates elements of funk, hip-hop, politics, education – and salsa – into an infectious combination able to move mind, body and spirit.

Martinez is a relocated New Yorker who spent his teen years in Puerto Rico. Arriving in San Francisco in the late 1980s, he gained prominence as the lead singer and composer of Bay Area alt-rock band Psychefunkapus, followed up by vocal duties with Latin rock band Los Mocosos. He later joined salsa band Mazacote, then co-founded Azabache with his brother, Ray. In 2016 he formed La Rebeldia to incorporate the various influential elements of his life: uplifting dance music with a message.

The group’s latest release, Identidad Profunda, will be released in May.
