Dr. Marcus Wolfe’s sound on the tenor saxophone might be described as a combination of that of his biggest influences, Stan Getz and Eddie Harris. A relative newcomer to the Bay Area, Dr. Wolfe is the Director of Jazz Studies at the Valley Christian Conservatory of the Arts in San Jose. The Valley Christian Jazz Band was named the Best High School Jazz Band by DownBeat magazine.
Dr. Wolfe is the recipient of three Down Beat jazz awards and as a leader has released two CDs on the Nojoh label. He has performed professionally throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East and is an active freelance saxophonist in many major urban centers of the U.S.
Additionally, Wolfe is the author of a method book titled ROLLPLAY — Strength Training for Fundamental to Advanced Technique On All Instruments. He is an Advisory Board Member of the Boise Jazz Society and the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, and previously worked with the Great Basin Jazz Camp.
