Mason Razavi’s Quartet Plus

Aug 9, Sunday - 5pm
RBC Silicon Valley Stage

Bay Area jazz guitarist Mason Razavi brings his thoughtful and evocative style to his critically acclaimed release Quartet Plus. A longtime composer, educator, and bandleader rooted in jazz, Razavi’s diverse musical background inspires compositions that are altogether familiar and innovative.

The gifted musician has devoted his life and studies to classical and jazz guitar, bringing his introspection and mature playing to settings ranging from rock bands to accompanying concert choirs to classical solo performances. Razavi has performed at the Wilshire Ebell Theater, Paradise Rock Club, and on stage at the San Jose Repertory Theater, along with countless other gigs as both a sideman and bandleader. An avid educator, Razavi joined the faculty at De Anza College in 2014 and has conducted clinics for San Jose State University, South Bay Guitar Society, and the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society.

Quartet Plus, which features original music for jazz quartet and nonet, is both steeped in the jazz tradition and forward-reaching at the same time. The music ranges from stirring ballads to driving backbeats, from odd time signatures and deep rhythms to sing able melodies and lyrical improvisation. The album is a perfect confluence of beautiful guitar music, lush arrangements, and contemporary sounds.
