The Monterey Jazz Festival Regional All-Star Vocal ensemble features the top voice students from across Monterey County, who all come together to participate in an advanced choir.
Each Monterey Jazz Festival all-star ensemble, which includes MJF’s middle and high school big bands, rehearses twice monthly (daily at MJF’s annual Summer Camp). The musicians work on ensemble skills—including phrasing, blending, improvisation, and rhythmic feel, while exploring a range of jazz styles. The bands also perform across Monterey County and far beyond, testing their chops on the bandstand while bringing great music to the community. The ensembles have performed across North America at jazz festivals and venues like the Kennedy Center, the National Archives, and Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle.
Starting with the 2021-22 school year, all-star ensemble students, through a partnership with Monterey Peninsula College’s Music Department, will have the benefit of working with some of the county’s best jazz educators.
