After studying classical piano studies with Professor Benjamin Oren at the Music Academy in Jerusalem, Shai Maestro won the National Jazz Ensembles Competition ”Jazz Signs”, as well as a number of scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Fund for jazz piano.
Joining bassist Avishai Cohen’s trio for five years, alongside drummer Mark Guiliana, Maestro toured extensively around the world, playing 70-90 concerts a year at well-known venues and festivals including Blue Note, Yoshi’s, Madrid Jazz Festival, and The Olympia Hall. He has performed with the likes of Kendrick Scott, Jorge Rossy, and John Pattitucci. These experiences solidified Maestro’s status as a piano prodigy with dazzling skill, elegant phrasing, and unfailing taste.
Embarking on another journey with the Shai Maestro Trio, the pianist has proved himself as a versatile and diverse bandleader. Shai Maestro Trio has shared the stage with ensembles led by jazz greats including Chick Corea, Tigran Hamasyan, Esperanza Spalding, and Diana Krall. The Trio’s two albums, received amazingly well by critics and fans alike, have spurred intense international tours in concert halls, jazz clubs, and at festivals.
