Terrence Brewer & Mason Razavi: The Magic of Monk

Aug 9, Friday - 8:30pm
Hammer4 Stage

In this special performance, local favorites Mason Razavi and Terrence Brewer pay homage to the great pianist Thelonious Monk, known for his influential style of dissonant voicings and off-beat rhythm. They are joined by first-call musicians Gary Brown and Sylvia Cuenca.

Guitarist Mason Razavi has been a mainstay on the SF Bay Area jazz scene for over a decade. His ambitious original compositions have been warmly received, and he’s performed with some of the West Coast’s great musicians, including Anton Schwartz, Mimi Fox, John Stowell, Aaron Lington, Hristo Vitchev, Jamie Davis, Josh Nelson, Charles McNeal, Carl Saunders, Lorca Hart and many others. He’s also been a performer and clinician at the NAMM show and the Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival.

Multiple award winning guitarist Terrence Brewer is a first-call and in-demand bandleader, record producer, concert performer and studio musician. He’s also one of the San Francisco Bay area’s foremost and sought after music educators. Brewer has produced and released 11 nationally acclaimed albums on his own record label, Strong Brew Music.

In the past 20 years, bassist Gary Brown has toured extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East where he has recorded and shared the stage with Pharaoh Sanders, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, George Duke, Roy Ayres, Lyle Mays and many more.

2022 Jazz Aid Fund artist Sylvia Cuenca is an active drummer on the New York and SF Bay Area jazz scenes who contributes outstanding performances in a variety of settings. She has had the honor of sharing the bandstand with saxophone legend Joe Henderson for 4 years and trumpet legend Clark Terry for 17 years.
