Tom Rigney and Flambeau

Aug 12, Sunday - 6pm
Blues/Big Easy Stage

One of the world’s premier roots music fiddlers, Tom Rigney and his band Flambeau deliver a sizzling taste of Americana to audiences around the globe. Steeped in the tradition of Cajun and Zydeco music, Rigney plays with fiery intensity that commands the hearts of his audience.

For over thirty-five years, Rigney has been a fixture of the Bay Area’s Americana music scene. He first established himself as the fiddler and composer of the bluegrass band Back in the Saddle, writing their chart-topping hit, “Time and Again” in 1981. He continued to perform with Queen Ida’s Bon Temps Zydeco Band, where he fell in love with South Louisiana dance music. This influence pervaded his next band, The Sundogs, who released seven albums and toured internationally over their fifteen year career.

With Flambeau, Rigney brings his seasoned expertise on the fiddle to a broader range of styles and a more thoughtful compositional process. The band’s debut album, Red Boots and Rice boasts flavors of Americana, Celtic reels and Eastern European music. Performing everywhere from California to Munich, Flambeau always gets the audience involved in the show. Their infectious energy and feel-good melodies promise to leave festival-goers clapping their hands and stomping their feet.
