He has performed extensively on Broadway, originating the drum and percussion book for the original production of Disney’s The Lion King, and has come into his own as an educator, penning a number of influential drumming method books.
Igoe has created two ongoing weekly musical residencies at iconic jazz clubs in New York and San Francisco. His residency with his New York band, The Birdland Big Band, has become a weekly event in the city for the last 9 years. His most recent project, Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy, boasts many of the Bay Area’s finest instrumentalists, including trumpeter and Pacific Mambo Orchestra leader Steffen Kuehn, Tower of Power tenor saxophonist Tom Politzer, Doobie Brothers alto saxophonist Marc Russo, and baritone saxophonist Aaron Lington, Musical Director of San Jose Jazz’s High School All Stars. The band has established a devoted following for their superb musicianship and unique, fresh arrangements of material from the big band canon. The group’s self-titled debut features guest artists Randy Brecker, Santana’s Karl Perazzo, and Snarky Puppy’s Michael League.
