Tribal Gold

Aug 13, Saturday - 4:30pm
Blues/Big Easy Stage

When The New Orleans Suspects and the Golden Comanche unite, they’re known as Tribal Gold. A convergence in the works for a decade, their pairing is meant to highlight New Orleans culture, music and the Mardi Gras Indian heritage.

The Suspects supply groove-heavy music inspired by New Orleans’ classic funk and rhythm and blues, while Big Chief Juan Pardo & Golden Comanche bring Mardi Gras Indian rhythm, chant, and splendor.

The New Orleans Suspects started out as a pickup band at the famed Maple Leaf Bar and have been tearing up the festival and club circuits ever since. Before forming, the group’s members had performed with James Brown, Fred Wesley, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Joss Stone the North Mississippi Allstars, and more. The Suspects have recorded and performed with such artists as The New Mastersounds, Dr. John, Leftover Salmon, Little Feat, Widespread Panic, Col. Bruce Hampton and many others. They’ve released five critically acclaimed albums.

Big Chief Juan Pardo & The Golden Comanche Mardi Gras Indians is an electrifying display of a culture that dates back over two hundred years. Chief Juan’s soulful voice makes any audience feel like they are in the jazz-filled streets of New Orleans. Their percussion-heavy tribal music, infused with the funk styles of the Meters, Willie T, and the Neville Brothers, can only be performed by those who are chosen. Chief Juan has recorded and performed with Galactic, 101 Runners, and Rhythm Conspiracy, and shared the stage with Patti Labelle, Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, Trombone Shorty, and Dr. John.
