Villalobos Brothers

The Villalobos Brothers are widely recognized as one of today’s leading Contemporary Mexican ensembles, delivering an intoxicating brew of brilliance, cadence and virtuosity that awakens and mesmerizes. Recently featured on NPR, their original compositions masterfully blend the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical.

The first Mexican band to play at the Apollo Theater, the ensemble has also performed at an impressive list of venues including the Latin Grammy® Awards, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Rockefeller Center. In 2013, Villalobos Brothers won the “2013 Battle of the Boroughs”, one of National Public Radio’s flagship competitions.

They have collaborated and recorded with legendary musicians, including Paddy Moloney and The Chieftains, Dan Zanes, Jay Rodriguez, Pierre Boulez, Dolly Parton, and Eddie Palmieri. Their most recent album, Aliens of Extraordinary Ability, references the artist visas that the three brothers received before coming to the United States. Future endeavors include the completion of a Symphonic Project in collaboration with Grammy® Award-winning arranger and composer Eduardo Magallanes, as well as the recording of a second album.

Villalobos Brothers are composed of brothers Ernesto Villalobos, lead vocals, violin; Alberto Villalobos, lead vocals, violin; and Luis Villalobos, lead vocals, violin); with collaborators Humberto Flores, guitar and back-up vocals; Leo Sherman, bass; and Rosa Avila, drums.
