Hailing from the West Coast, the Zydeco Flames burst onto the scene with their 1993 debut Hot Offerings and have been a regional favorite ever since, bringing the sizzling roots rhythms of Louisiana masters like Clifton Chenier, Buckwheat Zydeco and Queen Ida to dancehalls and festivals across the country.
Fronted by Lloyd Meadows — a classically trained singer whose soulful style spans rock, blues and R&B — the Flames feature guitarist Frank Bohan, whose Chicago blues roots fuel his masterful solos; accordionist Bruce Gordon, a Louisiana-seasoned player who has recorded with Roy Rogers on a Grammy Award-nominated Ramblin’ Jack Elliott album; and bassist Timm Walker, a core member of the Elvin Bishop Band who produced the Flames’ last two studio albums. Drummer William Allums Jr. rounds out one of the tightest rhythm sections on the West Coast, bringing Louisiana-spiced grooves steeped in gospel, funk and R&B.
Named Best Zydeco Band by the West Coast Blues Society, the Flames have lit up the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, Bumbershoot and beyond. Their seventh album, Fire Dance, keeps the tradition burning hot.
